Performers come to Levin on tour

-

Live music still exists and performers are keen to entertain and share their music after a long two years of restrictions. Tours are starting up again albeit in a carefully presented way due to Covid-19 guidelines and one of Levin’s little known secrets is Dale’s Acoustic Live Events.

Dale Stratton, who has presented small intimate house concerts since 2018 to local fans of acoustic and folk music, is excited to present an upcoming concert from two performers, Jon Sanders and Cousin Alice, who offer classy world music on an interesting variety of instruments, and who are presently travelling the South Island as part of NZ Arts on Tour featuring Alpaca Social Club.

Guest Jon Sanders from

Ireland, bassouki player and guitarist, is one-half of the Alpaca Social Club which plays fresh sounds from exotic lands and is currently touring NZ.

Cousin Alice creates a completely unique sound, gritty, sweet, and heartfelt, delivered with a shot or two of humour. Her voice has been likened by one listener to “a cross between Tom Waits, Peggy Lee and Marianne Faithfull”.

Based in London but raised in New Zealand, of Barbadian/ Welsh/ English/ Sephardi parentage, she draws on a rich infusion of Ma¯ori, Polynesian, Caribbean and Calypso culture.

This Acoustic Live Event is held at the lovely Ohau Community Hall, 14 Muhunoa West Rd, Ohau. Parking is plentiful, the hall is large and chairs will be spaced out, tea/coffee/ limited refreshments will be available, acoustics are beautiful and the guests amazing.

Sure to be a very enjoyable music afternoon, Dale welcomes all to this Sunday event in a larger venue. She is a longtime fan of folk and festivals, a regular Levin Folk Music Club member and plays ukulele with the Levin Ukuladies.

The concert will start at 3pm with doors open at 2.30pm on Sunday, April 3, finishing about 5pm. Door sales $20 pp.

Contributions to afternoon tea would be appreciated (as this is a not-for-profit show); hot drinks are available but note that alcohol is not permitted. Call 027 2079695 with any queries. Vaccine passes will need to be sighted, with mask wearing optional when seated.
