Mears Memorial and mixed pairs

Last Saturday Central Levin Bowling hosted the John Mears Memorial Trophy competition. This is a competition for eight-year and under bowlers. Fletch and Mo from Bulls won, with in second place Alicia Gold and Mike Harvey, who were a composite team, and in third place Ben Bayley and Peter Madden from Central Levin, all playing on Green 1.

On Green 2 the winners were Fenn and Woody from Himatangi who won the overall trophy. In second place were Adam Batty and Quintin Bainbridge from Central Levin and in third place were Gay Calderwood and Jon Whittaker from Central Levin.

This weekend the championship mixed pairs were completed at Central Levin. Selwyn Riwaka and Colleen Nicholson took the first semifinal over Peter Brown and Izzy Kennedy while Gary Wylie and June Mears won over Ray Hudson and Timeri Sanders with both games being close. In the final Gary Wylie and June Mears defeated Selwyn Riwaka and Colleen Nicholson.

The Regional Intercentre was also played last weekend in Taranaki with teams from Wellington, Ka¯piti Coast, Wanganui and Taranaki competing. Kapiti Coast women did very well in coming second with Wellington taking first place and going forward to play off against other regions.
