‘Amazing’ artworks entered for competition

-

De Molen received 80 entries from Coley Street School and Foxton Primary School for its “Diversity” Art Competition for the Big Dutch Day Out.

The judging was very hard, because the quality was so high. For the first time, students also submitted a few 3D sculptures.

“The work is amazing,” judge Ann Brouwers, from De Molen, said. “We absolutely loved a windmill dressed in a korowai cloak. That tells you all about the way Te Awahou Foxton sees itself. For tamariki, our town is an example of different cultures living in harmony with one another.

“Looking at all the colourful creative works, it's easy to imagine how much spontaneous expression went into it all.

“We want to thank the schools,” Ann said. “They obviously made a huge effort to engage with the students, to celebrate all our different cultures. And we've got lots of great prizes to give away on the Big Dutch Day Out, thanks to the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and Coca-Cola. Plus we're very grateful for the support of the Office of Ethnic Communities.

“We hope everybody joins in the festivities, on Saturday 23 April, from 11am onwards.”
