Volcanic rocks protect plant
Huge volcanic rocks from Taranaki are being used to protect the intake of water at Levin’s water treatment plant at Gladstone Rd. A series of storms last year had caused the O¯ hau River to change direction, leaving the intact gallery at the plant almost dry during periods of low river flow, and Horowhenua District Council contractors were working to redirect the flow. Sourcing suitable rocks had proven difficult and a supplier was eventually found in Taranaki. The works were now complete.
