QUESTIONS TO PUT TO THE CANDIDATES

-

Question 1: The question of affordable housing for the Horowhenua community has been a topic of discussion since the HDC sold off pensioner units to private operators. So, under the HDC Age Friendly Communities Strategy in your opinion what if any movement has there been on the implementation of the Horowhenua District Council Housing Action Plan and if so, what improvements have there been on the accessibility of pensioner housing in Horowhenua. Would you like to see HDC once again being a Community Housing Provider under the LGA and why or why not?

Question 2: Briefly, but specifically, in terms of the HDC Age Friendly Community Strategy what steps would you take to move Horowhenua towards this goal of Horowhenua being

“Age Friendly” and the benefits of age friendliness being made easier for the older residents of Horowhenua to stay connected with each other?

Question 3: Part A: (For candidates seeking re-election) How many times have you met or had a meeting or held a clinic with the constituents within your Ward and what are your AIMS and OBJECTIVES if elected to council for the next three years in respect of meeting with your older constituents to discuss their issues particularly in respect of the Council’s Age Friendly Communities initiatives?

Part B: (For first time candidates) Do you plan to hold meetings or clinics with the constituents within your Ward and what might your AIMS and OBJECTIVES be if elected to council for the next three years in respect of meeting with your older constituents to discuss their issues particularly in respect of the Council’s Age Friendly Communities initiatives?

Question 4: There has been an increase in the use of e-bikes and e-scooters in the Levin CBD. How would you support the need for the HDC to put in place a by-law to remove e-bikes and e-scooters from our footpaths? It is Horowhenua Grey Power’s contention that footpaths are for feet and wheelchairs.

Question 5: The WHO “Age Friendly Cities & Communities Model” (which includes rural towns) has eight (8) priority areas (in conjunction with the HDC’s own guiding principles). Can you please, as briefly as possible, give our Horowhenua Grey Power members your assessment on how well the current council has performed on just four – those being:

Community Health and Support Services – Housing - Transport

Social Participation for all sectors of the Horowhenua Community
