Brass in the Park line-up all set

Levin & Districts Brass will host a Brass In The Park concert in the Levin Adventure Park this Sunday.

Ka¯piti Brass will open the programme at 11am opening with an historical compilatio­n of John Philip Sousa Marches.

Other featured items include the Irving Berlin tune Puttin' on the Ritz, Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline , and a great favourite, Abba Goes Brass.

At 12.45pm, Palmerston North Brass will make their debut at Brass in the Park. Under the musical direction of newly-appointed conductor Keenan Buchanan, this band will perform a widely contrastin­g presentati­on of varied genres, starting with Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder, and including the ever-popular theme to the hit movie Ghostbuste­rs, a fine brass band arrangemen­t of When the Saints go Marching In, and Montserrat Serrat.

The third brass band for the afternoon will be Feilding Brass, playing at 2pm. On their list is: A Grand Day

Out, Despacito, Flag of Freedom and the highly popular Pinball Wizard by The Who, from their album Tommy, and the subsequent movie of the same name.

At 3pm Levin and Districts Brass will take the stage, on their programme is: New York, New York, arranged for the band by member Andrew Willis, Lady Gaga`s Poker Face, arranged for the band by member Reuben Price, and modern compositio­ns Battlefiel­d Classic Theme and Uptown Funk.

A highlight will be the band's final number, Town of Taumarunui ,a march by New Zealand composer John Gibbons. This is the 41st brass band march he has composed, and he is travelling to the event from Te Awamutu for the performanc­e.
