Kids’ Market on again this weekend

-

On Sunday April 16 at the Ōtaki Market there will be another Kids’ Market, with twice as many registrations as in January.

Over 50 young people will be taking part in the kids’ market — the youngest being 41⁄2-year-old Seth, selling pine cone bird feeders.

The kids’ market focuses on building young people’s confidence, promoting wellbeing and health. Local tamariki and rangatahi have the opportunity to embrace their entrepreneurial skills, be aware of their own community and have fun in the process. While the market’s usual stall fee is $10, for the kids at this market we ask only for a koha/ donation.

The Māori Wardens will be joining us, and Ngāti Toa Sea Scouts will be helping with set up. A young Ōtaki musical duo, the Pretty Boys will be busking, along with more than 50 entrepreneurial young people selling their art and craft. They include: 9-year-old Erin with her dog biscuit business; 5-year-old Saeda with her hand painted t-shirts and tote bags; friends Sienna, Frances, Deeshika, selling hand-painted glasses; Landon with his egg and farm produce business; 8-year-old Fletcher with Adopt-a-rock stall; 14-year-old

Danelia with soaps and candles, with 12-year-old Harrison the assistant site manager.

There will be face painting, free crafting table, Bunnings Warehouse with free plant giveaways and Kāpiti District Libraries with a reading corner.

The BNZ Bank will be there to chat to kids about finance, and ASB Bank has sent through kids’ starter packs.

The Otaki Market is a craft market with a difference, the longest running market on the Kāpiti Coast, it’s run by local charity, Ōtaki Women’s Community Club.

All funds raised, including stall fees, go back to the local community.
