Double glazing made simple

-

E• • • veryone wants a home that’s warm and dry in winter, and cool in

summer.

Ceiling and under floor insulation is great but it doesn’t stop heat escaping through windows and condensation building up in winter, or stop summer heat from turning your house into a mini oven.

Few people can afford to throw out all their old, inefficient single-pane windows and have them replaced with double glazing units so retrofit double glazing can be the perfect alternative.

Retrofit double glazing simply replaces your existing single glazing with new double glazed units using the existing joinery – it’s quick and unobtrusive.

Retrofit double glazing is designed to effectively: reduce heat loss through your single pane windows, resulting in lower heating costs reduce condensation (even more when used with adequate ventilation) keep summer heat out • reduce outside noise by up to 25%

When looking for retrofit windows it’s important to check: • • • •

Is it a low quality clip on solution or purpose built solutions, tailored to your windows?

Do the double glazed units meet industry standards (the units should reduce heat loss by at least 47-54%)?

Can the installer match the colour of your existing window frames where possible (existing UV/weather fading etc may not always make an exact match possible)?

Is there a warranty of at least five years on the units and workmanship?

Research* has shown that secondaryglazing of existing windows can be just as effective and cheaper – sometimes a lot cheaper – so now is a great time to start thinking about upgrading your single pane windows for a warmer, drier heat efficient home. *https://www.consumer.org.nz/articles/double-glazing
