Taking the next step to career in support work
Past student helping others to make a difference
Perhaps you’re someone who aspires to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Soanna Neilsen
Training for the NZ Certificate in Health & Wellbeing Level 3 is just one of the courses the Horowhenua Learning Centre offers.
One of its past students, Soanna Neilsen, completed the course more than a decade ago in 2009.
Born and raised in Taitoko Levin, Soanna was interested in caregiving, but decided a qualification would be useful in getting a job.
She said the course is a very useful tool to have in your kete if you are already working in the sector and would like to upskill.
“Perhaps you’re someone who aspires to make a positive difference in the lives of others and wants to find work in an industry that needs dedicated workers.
“By completing this programme, you will not only gain valuable theoretical knowledge but also develop practical skills that will set you apart as a highly competent support worker,” she said.
After gaining work experience in the past 15 years she is now back at HLC — as a tutor.
“I am so grateful to be a part of the team at HLC to share my experience with students who are looking to upskill, improve and enhance their own knowledge and experience as caregivers/support workers. If you are interested don’t hesitate to come in and see me.
“My main goal is to support individuals in their journey to become effective and compassionate caregivers, providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge to excel in this field. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those in need.
“Don’t hesitate to reach out and take the first step towards your personal and professional growth. I am looking forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goals.
