Frankenfood
What do you get when you cross a sausage and a burrito? A bangerrito, of course.
LAUNCHED IN AUCKLAND over summer by Colenso creative Ben Polkinghorne, the bangerrito, “the world’s first burrito sausage” mixes pork, beans, chunks of red cabbage and onion into a sausage, which is then served in a tortilla with guacamole, hot sauce and sour cream.
The bangerrito got us thinking about other weird and wonderful food crosses. There’s L&P chocolate, of course, but you probably have to go outside New Zealand for some truly bizarre concoctions: flavours, including raw horse flesh and cow tongue. And at San Francisco’s Humphry Slocombe ice cream parlour, you can choose the signature “secret breakfast”, made with bourbon and cornflakes.
