Pig and stag hunt proves a roar­ing suc­cess

The an­nual Kaik­oura Vol­un­teer Fire Bri­gade Pig and Stag Hunt was an­other big suc­cess with close to 100 adult en­tries in the open sec­tion pro­vid­ing some stiff com­pe­ti­tion.

The chil­dren’s sec­tion at­tracted 36 en­tries.

A to­tal of 27 stags and 27 pigs were weighed in. While stag size was down an av­er­age of 12kg this year, some big boars brought the av­er­age pig weight up 10kg on last year.

Av­er­age weight pig: Bill Bartrum, 50.8

Stag: John Ni­cholls, 98.6kg
