Te­gan takes the top spot again

Te­gen Bishop took out her last Groms comp of the sea­son.

Bishop won the Un­der 18 Girls Divi­sion at the week­ends Joyce & Co Win­ter Freeze Surf Comp, which was run by North­side board­rid­ers and held at Waikuku on Satur­day.

The event at­tracted surfers from as far as Dunedin and Kaik­oura and of­fered groms from 12 to 18 their fi­nal comp of the surf­ing sea­son.

The com­peti­tors en­joyed small, clean con­di­tions all day.

The morn­ing saw quar­ter and semi fi­nals con­tested with over two hours of fi­nals in the af­ter­noon.

Christchurch’s North Wai Board­rid­ers en­joyed out­stand­ing suc­cess tak­ing the top spot in all eight di­vi­sions, with surfers from Waikuku’s North­side Board­rid­ers, Kaik­oura Board­rid­ers and Christchurch’s Point Surf Team also gain­ing podium po­si­tions.

North Wai’s win­ning team were: U12 Girls: Eden Hunger­ford. U12 Boys: Tom Robert­son. U14 Girls: Ava Hen­der­son. U14 Boys: Jai Oak­ley. U16 Girls: Estella Hunger­ford. U16 Boys: Jai Oak­ley. U18 Girls: Te­gen Bishop. U18 Boys: Myka Black

Bishop will be com­pet­ing again next week rep­re­sent Ran­giora High School in the Can­ter­bury Scholastic Surf­ing Champs at New Brighton, be­fore fi­nally round­ing out the sea­son at Kaik­oura’s Cold Wa­ter Clas­sic dur­ing Queen’s Birth­day Week­end.
