Bad for Porirua

-

Full details of the initiative are on the Department of Internal Affairs’ website at www.dia.govt.nz/communityled.

ROBYN NICHOLAS, general manager Community Operations,

Department of Internal Affairs. Editor, If the protection of democracy is not a priority for you, you will favour a super-city.

If you are mesmerised by being a de facto corporate manager rather than an elected representative of the people, a super-city is for you.

If you are not fussed about the uniqueness of Porirua as a multicultural city, you will favour a super-city.

If you are not concerned about the existence of a significant number of Porirua families living on or below the poverty line, you will favour a super-city.

If your dream is to become a ‘‘big wig’’ in a super-city that’s what you will go for.

If you are not worried about the massive cost Wellington has to face when dealing with earthquake prone buildings and 19th century water and sewerage pipes you will be a super-city supporter.

If it doesn’t concern you that most Wellington politicians and bureaucrats don’t give a stuff about Porirua you won’t worry that under a super-city Porirua will become a forgotten dormitory suburb.

I am all in favour of bringing our city council wage bill out into the open so that we can return to affordable wages and affordable rates. I support the establishment of community boards for the sake of democracy in Porirua.

Porirua City and its people are worth fighting for. A super-city must be opposed.

DON BORRIE, Titahi Bay.
