Public’s input welcome

-

It is time for Cannons Creek residents to speak up and speak out about their suburb’s future.

The Cannons Creek Draft Village Plan 2012-13 was presented to a public meeting on February 21 and public submissions are being sought.

Cannons Creek Residents & Ratepayers Association’s chairman Aporo Joyce says they are seeking feedback over the next four to five weeks before the plan is finalised. The Village Plan is focused around three key areas – environment and recreation, services and strengthening community links.

Mr Joyce says the plan is designed to collaborate with other groups and to acknowledge the good work already being done in the Cannons Creek community and support where possible.

‘‘We are keen to obtain residents’ comment that will help us finalise the plan.’’

Since July 2010, the association has worked on several projects including the mini makeover of the Cannons Creek Shopping area, replacing the footpath near Te Akupuaga Hall, developing the entrance to Belmont Park and better linking Cannons Creek to Bothamley Park.

Jon Blackshaw, a member of the association, is working with residents living near Calliope Park about redesigning the playground and issues in the area. The association is also working with police and business owners on a proposal to Porirua City Council about solutions to vulnerable spaces at the Cannons Creek shops.

‘‘The association is still building and we’ve identified objectives and goals that are realistic and within our capacity at this stage,’’ says Mr Joyce. ‘‘Our role is to help facilitate and provide support on resident issues.’’
