-

This year’s French Film Festival will hold a special attraction for rugby aficionados.

Le Fils at Jo ( Jo’s Boy) is the story of Jo Carnavaro, the third in a dynasty of sporting legends in France’s rugby-mad south-west.

To Jo’s huge disappointment his son Tom has more interest in mathematics than sport. A former All Black called Jonah comes out of left field to save the day.

Among the other offerings are Les Bien- Aimes ( Beloved) featuring French cinema legend Catherine Deneuve. The Look: un autoportrait a travers les autres is a look at the world through the eyes of Charlotte Rampling, a significant actor in English, French and Italian cinema as well as Hollywood movies.

Deux Jours a Paris ( Two Days in Paris) is a French/american couple’s attempt to re-ignite their romance in Paris. Julie Delpy directs and plays a lead role.

Ensemble, c’est tout ( Hunting and Gathering), directed by Claude Berri and starring Audrey Tatou, is a romantic fable of four lost souls in Paris.

The 2012 French Film Festival opens at the Paramount Theatre on March 8 with La Guerre est Declaree ( Declaration of War) which examines the lives of film- maker Valerie Donzelli and writer Jeremie Elkaim as they deal with their infant child’s real-life brain tumour. The festival runs until March 25. For more information visit www.frenchfilmfestival.co.nz or to book call the Paramount on 384 4080.
