Big plan for suburb

- By KRIS DANDO

Whitby land owner David Bradford is looking to slow down, after the Todd Property Group’s purchase of a large slice of suburban real estate.

Whitby Estates still has 200 sections on its books but the Todd group, which had a hand in originally creating the suburb in the 1960s, has bought 28 hectares.

The selling price is confidential but it involves prime property near where the New World supermarket will be built, next to Adventure Park, and much of Duck Creek North, on the old golf course land. Space is allocated for reserves, two commercial lots and up to 189 residential sections.

Mr Bradford says it is a positive step forward for Whitby.

‘‘It’s very exciting and a significant milestone point. Todd have come back after selling it 16 years ago and now they are part of the future for this part of the city, they have fresh eyes and fresh marketing ideas. That area around the supermarket is flat and central.’’

Mr Bradford will move offices this week but remains the front man for Whitby Estates.

‘‘I’m not getting any younger and I’m happy to slow down a bit.’’

A parcel of about one hectare has been bought by Samuel Marsden Collegiate to expand.

Mr Bradford is also in the final stages of talks with Porirua City Council regarding the new link road off Transmission Gully.
