Group focuses on hard-to-fund tasks

- By LITEA AH HOI

At Mana Community Grants Foundation we recognise that education is extremely important for both our children and our young city’s future. Trustees place such a high priority on the education of our children that they give education its own funding round.

Every year we extend funds to all schools in our area, starting with preschools ( including kohanga reo, Aoga Amata, Te Kura Kaupapa) through primary, intermediate and secondary schools.

This year we are providing $360,000 of funding to support 72 schools in the Porirua and Tawa areas. Our focus is on helping to fund those projects that fall outside the education curriculum as well as projects that schools struggle to find money for — for example, sports uniforms.

Applications this year have been strong on technology ( we have had many requests for funding for iPads, tablets and laptops), illustrating our young city’s learning institutions are keeping up with the latest developments. It is encouraging to see and we are proud to be a part of helping to extend our children’s knowledge and instil a love of technology-based learning.

Also at Mana Community Grants Foundation, we have been reviewing our management practises so that we can better serve the needs of our community and to ensure that we meet significant statutory requirements.

We have just taken on a new management contract with Trust House Limited, who have wide experience in managing trusts across the lower North Island.

Rest assured that Lee Adamson, our former executive officer, remains with us managing our office in Mana, so it remains business as usual with the same warm greetings every time you visit.

We are currently upgrading our website so that information will be more easily available – check out our newly launched website at poriruacommunitytrust. org. nz (still a little work in progress, but we are getting there!)
