All the beer fit to print

- By AMY JACKMAN

A Wellington beer lover and writer is on a quest to publish a book of all the breweries in New Zealand.

Jules van Cruysen is a food and drinks writer with more than 12 years experience.

Next February he is hoping to publish kiwi CRAFT, a comprehensive snapshot of the New Zealand beer industry.

The guide book will feature information on more than 120 breweries and their products, and will be launched with an app that will enable it to keep up with new breweries and new beers.

Van Cruysen said a guide book on New Zealand beer had not been written in more than a decade.

‘‘There’s nothing else like it,’’ he said.

The book will feature New Zealand beer only, but would not be limited to craft beer breweries.

‘‘It’s all commercially operating breweries and brewing companies,’’ he said.

‘‘For the big breweries, hopefully it will open people’s minds to their better products. For the craft breweries, hopefully it will help emerging consumers find the craft beer that they like.

‘‘There are so many different beers on the market that it can be hard for a new consumer to discover beer to their tastes.’’

The self-published book will also contain general beer information and regional guides to encourage beer tourism.

Funding for the book is being raised via Kickstarter.

Van Cruysen needs $15,000 to produce 750 copies of kiwi CRAFT.

The campaign has so far raised $4000, with 10 days to go until the campaign ends on August 23.

‘‘I’m delighted by the support the craft beer community has given me thus far,’’ van Cruysen said.
