Kerr signs English T20 deal

Promising young White Ferns spinner Amelia Kerr has signed a con­tract with the South­ern Vipers for the English women’s Twenty20 com­pe­ti­tion in 2018.

Kerr, 17, of Tawa Col­lege, will join up with White Ferns skip­per Suzie Bates at the Vipers, who were beaten fi­nal­ists last year.

Their T20 sea­son be­gins on July 22 and Kerr, who fea­tured for the White Ferns at the 2017 World Cup, has taken 36 wick­ets in 25 in­ter­na­tion­als matches at an av­er­age of 20.27.

She made her de­but for New Zealand aged just 16 and will be cap­tained by Bates at the Vipers, who are based in Southamp­ton on Eng­land’s south coast.

Eng­land’s T20 com­pe­ti­tion, known as the Su­per League, fea­tures six teams and has ex­panded from five to 10 matches per side in 2018.

There will be 32 matches this sea­son and the com­pe­ti­tion con­cludes with a fi­nals day on Au­gust 27.
