Karate club wins medals

Students from Paraparaum­u and O¯ taki dojos have won 15 medals at the Wellington Region’s GKR Karate tournament.

“We are very proud of the Ka¯ piti students from our Paraparaum­u and Otaki dojos who once again demonstrat­ed excellent etiquette and enjoyed a fun day of competitio­n at the Wellington Region’s Tournament on August 5,” said GKR Karate hub leader and instructor Ann Eyes.

“A total of 15 medals came home to Ka¯ piti, an excellent result.”

The tournament attracted 60 competitor­s from Auckland and across the greater Wellington area with students competing in all age, grade and team events.

Medal winners from Ka¯ piti were Luca Sudbury who won silver, Courtney Brider and Jacob Waugh who won two silvers each, Luke Edwards who won three silvers, Branden Withers and Billie McPharlane who won gold, with Billie also winning a silver and a bronze and Shentay Emke who came away with two silvers and a bronze.

For more informatio­n on GKR Karate there will be informatio­n and demonstrat­ions at Coastlands on September 25.

The Wellington regional manager together with senior instructor­s and students will be demonstrat­ing self-defence moves and answering questions on GKR Karate during the course of the day.
