Possible plans for a new interchange at Peka Peka are still being explored by the NZ Transport Agency. Project delivery senior manager Chris Hunt said, “The business case was only recently completed and we are still reviewing the findings. Once we have finished our internal review, we expect to meet with Peka Peka and Te Horo residents to discuss findings of the business case in January/February.” Currently there is a partial interchange but there has been community support for a full interchange especially as the Peka Peka to Otaki Expressway is being built.

Northbound drivers wanting to get to Peka Peka on the Mackays to Peka Peka Expressway have to either exit at Waikanae or carry on north, turn left into Te Hapua Rd, turn around, wait for both lanes to be clear, get back onto the expressway and head south where there’s a side lane that loops over the expressway to Peka Peka. The agency hoped to release the report publicly when it met with residents in the new year.
