Outstanding results from athletes

- —

The 2018-2019 track and field season produced some outstanding results for local athletes.

At the North Island Secondary Schools Championships, held in Tauranga this month, three athletes, namely Ben Lambert (Paraparaumu College), Louis Northcott and Jordan Stewart (both Ka¯ piti College) produced top performances all within an hour of each other, bringing back memories of Peter Snell and Murray Halberg’s famous victories at the Rome Olympics.

Ben started the onslaught when he won the junior 100m in a personal best time of 11.43s Jordan followed shortly after with a superb run to win the senior 100m also in a PB of 10.90s his first time under 11 sec.

Significantly, Jordan was the in the U18 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.

Louis placed second in the U20 decathlon at the national championships also held in Christchurch and along with Jordan broke six records between them at this year’s

Ka¯ piti College athletic sports

Ben too broke the junior 100m and 200m records at the Paraparaumu College athletic sports.

All of these performances have come on top of outstanding efforts at both the Western College’s and regional colleges athletics meetings.

Ben has the NZ Interprovincials to attend in Christchurch at Easter to culminate his season and he will be accompanied in the Wellington team by Zane Wakeling and Stace Van Haeren, both whom have had excellent seasons.

These boys are all members of the Paraparaumu Track and Field Club whose children’s section recently gained 49 placings at this year’s Wellington Children’s championships. This follows on from a successful Colgate Games in Hamilton in January.
