Developing an O¯ taki identity

-

Wellington-based Flightdec, a company with strong O¯ taki connections, has been¯contracted to work with Elevate Otaki and the community to develop an identity for O¯ taki.

The identity will be used in ongoing promotion and marketing.

Flightdec was appointed by Elevate O¯ taki to undertake the six-month project after a rigorous selection process.

Elevate O¯ taki chairman and Ka¯ piti Coast District Council councillor James Cootes was delighted work could begin.

“The group has had a period of discussion around what we and the community feel is important for O¯ taki.

“Now we need some expertise in building an identity.

“We’re looking forward to working with Flightdec’s team.

“Locals will see some real progress over the coming months.”

The Elevate Otaki ¯ group is tasked with promoting the town and district, with particular emphasis on mitigating and enhancing the effects of the pending expressway.

Flightdec director Fraser Carson was also looking forward to working in O¯ taki.

“I was born and raised¯there and I’m a trustee of the XOtaki College Alumni Trust.

“So I’ve got an interest in seeing that O¯ taki makes the most of what it has to offer — for residents and visitors.

“Flightdec’s approach is to connect the various elements of communities like O¯ taki, and build trust and relationships in the process.

“We want the local community to be very much involved, so don’t be surprised if you’re approached by someone on Main St with a video camera seeking comments and ideas.”

Once the O¯ taki identity has been defined, Elevate O¯ taki will look at projects to best tell that story of identity, using funds received from council and NZ Transport Agency — $150,000 each from NZTA and KCDC (total $300,000) for Elevate O¯ taki activities over five years.
