Poet performs here
International spoken word artist Rikki Livermore, aka RikTheMost, has just finished a South Island tour, performing at eight festivals this summer and wrapping up a successful run of shows at Dunedin Fringe.
He’s now back in the North Island and, after having to cancel his last poetry show in Ka¯ piti due to illness, is ready to put on another night of linguistic delight at St Peter’s Hall, Paeka¯ ka¯ riki, on Friday May 3 from 7.30pm.
For those unfamiliar with his work, Rik’s deeply personal, yet empowering poetry covers a variety of topics, including politics, identity, sexuality, war, psychology, mental health and human interaction — then condenses the most salient points into an entertaining but hard-hitting display of verbal dexterity.
At recent shows, audience members have described Rik as “an essential voice in the deconstruction of corruption, fear and prejudice but always maintaining compassion”.
Rik’s poetry has taken him all over the world.
He has represented Australia in the American National Team Poetry Slam Finals, placed second at the NZ National Slam Finals, was commissioned by the BBC in the UK and recently been granted the prestigious Talent In The Arts Visa to perform and teach his art in New Zealand.
Tickets are currently on Eventfinda at $15 for general admission or $10 concessions — but Rik always has a “pay what you can afford” policy for those who find that too expensive (or too cheap).
You can also buy ‘suspended tickets’ which are anonymous gift tickets for people who can’t afford one.
