Wellbeing Hub for wha¯ nau in Ka¯ piti

-

Ka¯ piti Primary School is embarking on a pilot initiative by setting up a Wha¯ nau Wellbeing Hub — Te oranga o¯ te Hapori katoa.

The hub aims to support wha¯ nau/ families flourish on their parenting journey.

Jo Picot, a wha¯ nau navigator, will be available onsite to support access to parenting resources, provide parenting tips and tricks and to link wha¯ nau to other agencies to enhance their wellbeing.

Collective learning will also be a focus with morning tea sessions covering topics such as brain development, food, nutrition and health, sibling harmony and positive, peaceful parenting.

Jo will also be running small workshops throughout the next two terms as well as toolbox parenting courses.

“This is a fantastic initiative that all KPS wha¯ nau can benefit from and we are excited to be piloting this project,” school principal Brent McDowell said. “Working together will enable our rangatahi to thrive. This would not have been possible without the support of our Board of Trustees, Trudi Szytkiel [Harcourts] as a key sponsor of the service and New Zealand Community Trust for their grant funding.”

Trudi said the initiative was a great concept and wanted to jump onboard straight away.

“It’s great to be able to support such a fantastic community initiative and hopefully in future, we will see this rolled out in other schools — a simple but powerful concept that supports our wha¯ nau.”
