BMX meet draws top riders
The Kapiti BMX Club are hosting the Wellington Regional Championship BMX meet on Saturday.
The meet has attracted over 120 riders from Auckland to Dunedin and everywhere in between, with large numbers coming from Tauranga and Taranaki.
The meet has been touted as a favourite in the New Zealand BMX community with one out of town rider telling the club, “It’s our favourite race each year.”
Setting it apart from others is Kapiti’s ‘Flats Nats’ Super-Class where riders race on flat pedals (not clipped in) for cash.
To meet demand, Kapiti BMX Club have added two extra superclasses this year to include younger riders.
Among the riders are five elite and junior-elite riders, promising some fast racing.
Also competing are a number of riders from Kapiti including freshly crowned National Series champions Ella Giddens and Tom Coleman.
Ella and Tom have travelled around New Zealand over the last year to compete in National Series events and earn points.
They kick off 2020 with a home track advantage as the upcoming event doubles as a National Series points series round.
The meeting will be held at the Kapiti BMX track at the corner of Donovan and Percival Rd, Paraparaumu Beach.
Come support the Kapiti riders and watch the elites compete. Races start at 1pm.
