Piano concert
A fundraising concert for the Kapiti Performing Arts Centre features pianists David James and Jane Barnett.
The concert, in the Raumati Uniting Church on Sunday from 2.30pm, includes a programme of piano solos and duets featuring Mozart, Debussy, Bizet, Liszt and Brahms.
About David:
Educated at Auckland University studying piano with Janetta McStay. A QE2 Arts Council grant enabled David to move to the United States for further study and a Peabody Conservatory.
While still a student at Auckland University, David performed with all the major New Zealand orchestras as well as appearing as soloist in many festivals around New Zealand.
In the United States, David was a finalist in the University of Maryland International Piano Competition, and entered the Juillard School of Music on an artist diploma. At Juillard David met his future wife, the late Robelyn Schrade, and they formed a career as duo pianists.
About Jane:
From the age of 4 Jane took a serious interest in the piano, studying throughout her school years and later in London with Professor Vivian Langrish, an noted Schumann expert.
Vocal studies were included in her five year term at the Royal Academy of Music. From her late teens she developed a career as a pianist, accompanist and teacher of singing and piano. Jane particularly enjoys the development of young talent, taking a special interest in providing performance opportunities for students and young professional musicians.
