Playing for Valentine’s

-

Paeka¯ ka¯ riki trio The Crimson Club has reunited and joined with The Al Witham Blues Band to bring a special kind of love to St Valentine’s Day at St Peter’s Hall, on Friday from 8pm.

Known for their irreverent comedy and crazy cabaret antics, The Crimson Club’s dynamic line up of vocals and violin, accordion and high-hat, cello and kick drum (simultaneously) brings a truly original take on some great classic tunes.

“We like to take a song and bring our own spin on it, extending the meaning and sometimes the irony,” says vocalist and violinist Shona Jaunas.

“We all like extending the boundaries of what the music offers and what the instruments offer, so each song has its own flavour and style.”

Jaunas says the evening will give a nod to Valentine’s Day by bringing a love theme to the evening.

“We’ll be playing songs about love, good and bad, ironic and honest.”

The group will be playing a mix of their well worn favourites, including originals, Kiwi classics and French tunes along with new songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

The trio has previously played at the Fete de la Musique in Wellington and performed at a number of community halls across Wellington during their

Whirlwind Worldwide Wellington Tour in the New Zealand Fringe Festival.

The Crimson Club will be joined on stage by the Al Witham blues band playing Al Witham’s Valentine’s day classics, tales of lost love, thwarted plans and stillborn dreams, delivered by Al Witham and his band in a loose, dirty puddle of blues.

There is something for everyone in the evening.

The Crimson Club will start at 8pm followed by Al Witham’s Blues Band.

Tickets are $20 and are available at www.eventfinda.co.nz and at Paeka¯ ka¯ riki Fruit Supply.
