Summer music in Park all set to go

Afree community event, called Purebread Summer Music in the Park, takes place in Maclean Park, Paraparaum­u Beach, on Saturday.

Under the current red traffic light guidelines this event will occur as a vaccinated event and limited to 100 people in attendance and social distancing. There will be a designated area for this event. Vaccinatio­n passes are mandatory.

been performing locally in music events since she was nine years old. Nowadays her performanc­es take her further afield to the Wellington and Manawatu areas. As well as performing at various venues and music festivals she has won various awards at NZ Rockquest. Morete performs mainly her own music which deals with lot of issues facing young people today. Latin American Jazz ensemble Brasso takes the stage at noon. Their musical set includes some originals and popular covers with a jazz twist. Featuring Brasso band member and the founder of Purebread, vocalist/drummer Rob Glensor, has been very generous in assisting with this event. Also featured is local identity David Langley who arranges all music for Brasso. Langley will be performing on his trumpet/flugal horn and also sing several numbers. Talented vocalist Teneka Jennings will join the band and perform several numbers.

Fernando FeNa, a Latin American jazz band will be performing from 1.30pm. Featuring local musical identity Fernando Figueroa of Chilean decent, he brings an exciting South American exuberance to the stage, performing originals and contempora­ry improvised music.

At 2.30pm Puke and Moana will take the stage who are now entertaini­ng as a duet, a combinatio­n of genres mostly easy listening, including soul, blues, country rock and many more. A modern glamorous duet. This well-known combinatio­n has performed at other Purebread Festivals. Invited back due popular demand for their wonderful slant on covers.

Seismic State will perform at 3.30pm. Described as a style that mixes rock with elements of funk, progressiv­e and alternativ­e they combine riff oriented guitar with melodic basslines and driving drum rhythms forming a foundation for creative vocal melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.

“What better way to spend an afternoon enjoying local and national musical talent in the perfect surroundin­gs of recently redevelope­d Maclean Park listening to a selection of outstandin­g music performed by the district’s best musicians,” event organiser Chris Craddock said.

“Bring yourself, and the family, a picnic basket and a blanket, and come early, and enjoy six hours of live rock, blues, soul, funk, and jazz.”
