Students rally at top speed to help Tonga

Supplies collected for tsunami victims

-

The Ka¯piti community quickly rallied together when the call came out from the Paraparaumu College culture and community captains for help gathering items for tsunami-ravaged Tonga.

The head students blasted their Instagram and the school Facebook page and ran around classes to make the three-day window to collect food and stationery items to ship off to Tonga at the weekend.

They found out about the plight during a meeting with deputy principal, Helen Benson, who mentioned that as the students were starting back at college, there were parts of Tonga that didn’t even have a school left standing to go to.

“We were amazed at how quickly our school community could come together,” community captain Jess Glavin said.

Culture captain Taylor Cull added a ‘big thank you’ to the college community for all the donations.

“We stacked principal Craig Steed’s car to the brim.”

The supplies will head away this weekend via the Central Region Tonga Relief community group.
