Kāpiti’s next top model

-

Don’t be surprised if you see the elders of Enliven’s Kāpiti Day Programme adorning the pages of the newspaper or perhaps even a glossy newsletter.

Professional photographer Mike Heydon, from Jet Productions, was in town to take photos of residents and staff at the day programme and around Kāpiti on Wednesday.

“I think everyone had a great time – even those who were a little camera shy at first,” says External Relations General Manager Alisha Kennedy.

The photos will be used in brochures, flyers and websites for Enliven.

“It’s important to Enliven that we capture real moments, with real people who really love what Enliven offers,” says Alisha.

She explains that getting residents involved in the photo shoot fits nicely with Enliven’s philosophy of care, which is based on the internationallyrecognised Eden Alternative.

The Eden principles touch on ideas such as variety and spontaneity, companionship, continuing hobbies and meaningful activity.

“The key thing about Eden is that it’s elder-directed, and is all about ensuring older people have companionship, fun and meaningful activity in their lives.”

“We asked the day programme attendees if they wanted to be involved and they jumped at the opportunity – it’s something a little bit different and a little bit spontaneous, plus they really wanted to help out.”
