The Spy's Wife By Fiona McIntosh, Penguin/ Random House, $37 .. .. .. .. ..

-

.. .. This started off well with lots of trains, sibling rivalry and great characters.

Evie is a young widow working with her father on a train platform in Northern England.

Her sister has her eye on a handsome stranger named Roger; trouble is the stranger has his eye on Evie.

At the same time there are rumours of a German spy in the area. Roger and Evie fall in love and are just about to announce it to the world when he is arrested for spying.

He says he has a reason for spying and that he wasn’t sending any true information to Germany.

To save Roger, Evie comes up with a plan to marry him, and returns to Germany with him as a spy.

I found myself speed-reading towards the end because I knew what was going to happen.

Nice love story though.
