Avoiding Winter Weather Woes

- Bryce Robb Director/Head Arborist of Beaver Tree Service

With the tempestuous and unpredictable Summer weather that we have just experienced, now is a great time to get your trees checked, before the Autumn and Winter weather fully kicks in.

Older trees, trees that may be diseased, or trees that have been damaged in the recent storms will be at greater risk of failing in future bad weather events. As we have seen, these weather events are becoming more regular and more extreme. As arborists, Beaver Tree Service can advise you on any potential risks from the trees on your proper ty and they know how to spot the signs of decline within a tree and if that tree is at risk of failing.

Some trees can weigh up to 10 tonnes and can cause significant damage when they fail - the last thing you want is a large tree to drop a branch on your car or fall on your house!

Selectively removing branches from trees can reduce the weight and minimise the chances of that tree failing. It can also lessen the likelihood of storm damage by allowing the wind to pass through the tree, rather than pushing at it.

Some trees can be more susceptible to falling. Trees that are not native to New Zealand can grow a lot faster in New Zealand’s climate than their counterparts in the northern hemisphere, and so may not be as stable.

Beaver Tree Service’ arborists are knowledgeable about a wide variety of different trees, both native and non-native, and specialise in the care of individual trees. Our arborists are trained and equipped to provide you and your trees with proper care and advice.

If you have any trees on your proper ty that you would like some advice about let us know and we will arrange a time for one of our arborists to visit.
