Curly Cat By Jennifer Somervell, Illustrated by Zerika van Jaarsveld, Landing Lights Press, $21.95 .. .. ..

- Linda Hall

.. .. .. .. Poor Curly Cat. His tail is so long and curly that when he walks it collects all the rubbish and mud. Curly Cat doesn't like his tail. He wants one like everyone else. Some cats laugh at him. He tries everything to make it look like what he thinks is normal.

He irons it, washes it in the washing machine but nothing works.

Finally, he decides to go to the Barber Cat Salon and get it cut off. However, the barber has other ideas. He grooms Curly Cat's tail until it looks magnificent and it just happens to be competition time. Who will win the Best Tail Competition? I love this story, it touches on bullying and the lengths the bullied go to to try and fit in. At the back of the book is information on cats and bullying. Fabulous illustrations complete a wonderful “tail”.
