Open day for all sorts of athletes
With the onset of autumn comes the start of the crosscountry running season.
The Ka¯piti Running and Tri Club are excited to be opening up registrations for the coming season in early April, and are cautiously optimistic that many events will be returning to the calendar this year after two Covidinterrupted seasons.
To celebrate the new season and give newcomers a taste of what the club does, they are holding an open day this Saturday, March 26.
This is to be held at the kotare room (in the ranger’s hut) at the Mackay’s Crossing entrance to Queen Elizabeth Park from 2-5pm.
The afternoon will consist of fun social runs within the park and kids’ races, a sausage sizzle, goodie bags, spot prizes, ice-creams and more.
Everyone is welcome for some or all of the afternoon, and the club is especially encouraging families and school students to check them out and meet club members.
Information will be available about the KRTC and how to sign up as a member for the season, which brings a host of opportunities for social runs as well as representing the club competitively.
The club has been a part of the coast for more than 50 years holding regular summer and winter events.
Members range in age from 10 to more than 80, with all ages and abilities catered for.
The club is hoping to increase its membership this year and to revitalise the season, now that local and national events are back on.
