Spreading love with winter warmth

Community group makes sure donated warm clothing goes to those in need

- Rosalie Willis

After launching last year, Share the Warmth Ka¯piti are back again this year to share warmth and love among the Ka¯piti community throughout winter by redistributing any winter wear surplus to requirements, to individuals in need.

Project organisers Dan Ralph, Penny Mikkelsen and Sophie Handford said “with the support and involvement of the wider community, the initiative has so far been able to provide over 25 people/community groups with warm clothes to get them through winter.

“Thanks to generous contributions from our community of surplus to requirement warm gear, we now have a pretty full stock and are looking forward to gathering even more to reach this kindness and aroha to people and places in our district who need it.

“Those who received redistributed warm clothing were very appreciative of the generosity of our community.”

Clothes were delivered to a wha¯ nau who lost their home to a fire, to someone who was travelling during a winter month to attend a tangi, to children, older members of our community and to a whole wha¯ nau.

However, they believe there are still pockets of need which they have not been able to get the word out to and are wanting people contact them with their needs.

“There definitely are things we will continue to refine, and relationships we’re looking to create and strengthen, to make sure the Google Form link, email address and phone number reaches those who might be in need of some warm clothes, or might want to contribute to this initiative.
