Sunset calendar raises hospice funds

-

Proceeds from a second calendar featuring Ka¯piti sunsets has gone to Mary Potter Hospice. The calendar project, spearheaded by Murray Short in close association with Barney Shiels-Reddin, raised an impressive $11,660 for the hospice.

The calendar, featuring various sunsets by different photographers, was sold in various outlets on the coast especially the New World stores in Paraparaumu, Waikanae and O¯ taki.

Philippa Sellens, from Mary Potter Hospice, was delighted with the amount raised.

“A big thank you to Murray and all the photographers, and supporters, for doing this for hospice.

“The support we get from the community is incredible.”

Ali Young, co-owner of New World Ka¯piti, said the store as well as the Waikanae and O¯ taki New World stores, was pleased to help out.

“We sold a good number of calendars.

“It’s great to be able to support the hospice.”

She said the store would be a principal sponsor for the third calendar and had pledged $2000 towards it.

A giant cheque was presented to the hospice on Tuesday last week, at Ka¯piti New World, where the most calendars were sold.

The calendar initiative started at the former Reddins restaurant in Raumati Beach which Barney used to own before closing it because of ill health.

A regular pub quiz and raffles raised money for the hospice before Short created a calendar, using his own sunset photographs, and business paid to advertise in it, to raise money for the hospice.

The first calendar raised over $10,200 for the hospice.
