April weather

-

Like most recent months, April was slightly warmer than average, local weather commentator Murray Eggers said.

“It was also sunny and very dry, and in effect was our sixth summer month.

“Kā piti’s daily average maximum temperature of 20.1 degrees, was almost a degree above average. “This was similar to other places in central New Zealand, where Blenheim had the highest average of 20.8 and Wellington with the lowest of 18.1.

“However, the regional overall daily mean temperature of 15.7 degrees was recorded in Kā piti. “Our 20 sunny days, was the same number as last April and three above average.

“The month’s rainfall was around 30mm, with half falling in small amounts over the first two weeks and the remainder on a couple of days in the third week.

“This was fairly average for recent Aprils, but was barely sufficient to restore moisture levels significantly and dry conditions persist.

“Although recent autumn months have been more like summer, we are now beginning to experience the cooler weather associated with this season.”
