Shooting for shallots
Plant shallot bulbs and use the green shoots as a substitute for chives. They’re great grown in a terracotta tub close to the kitchen.
Fruitful proposal
There are bare-rooted fruit trees in garden centres now so decide what you want to grow and eat and get them in.
Get the kids sprouting
Little kids will love growing bean sprouts inside in a glass jar. It’s a great way to get super-fresh, tender winter greens.
Speedy spinach
Sow some fast-growing baby spinach, either in the garden or in pots if you’re in a cooler area.
