Smoky vocals — and dinner as well

Ō taki music nights gathering a following

-

Taranaki’s own Karen Clarke is the guest artist at the Stationhouse Social Club’s upcoming music night. The night features music by Clarke as well as The Salty Hearts band.

“Karen is well known for her exciting stage presence and powerful song writing,” co-organiser Anje Glindemann said.

“Firmly rooted in rhythm and blues/country crossover, Karen’s trademark smoky vocals and driving rhythmic guitar work anchor her pared-back, power-packed solo performance.

“The Stationhouse crew is very excited to present her to everyone who is keen to enjoy a night out at the Ō taki Golf Club. These Stationhouse Social Club nights are well attended and the growing audience rave about how much fun they have.

“People return again and again for large helpings of live music, a great convivial time and a delicious twocourse meal prepared by Paula Peters and her team from Kiwi Kai.

“The night starts with a ‘listening’ set from the guest, which gives the guest artist a moment to play and be heard, then Paula’s dinner is served to the table by a couple of our local college students.

“After 7, local four-piece band The Salty Hearts take to the stage, where people are then encouraged to socialise.

“The guest artist appears for another slightly more up-tempo set and the night culminates in what has been coined ‘The Big Ugly’, as all the musicians get up and play a few songs together to send everyone home happy.”
