It’s showtime

I was lucky enough to be able to attend an afternoon of music and dance at Southward Theatre. It was produced by the pupils and teachers of Paraparaumu College with their orchestra, dance group and jazz band. What an afternoon it was. I enjoyed every moment and it shows that the local talent we have here is amazing. So to the young schoolboys, girls, teachers and helpers — thank you for an afternoon of entertainment. It is a pity we do not see and hear more of you. Plus as it was a charity event I believe they raised about $4000. Well done.

School concert lifts spirits

What a spectacle it was to attend the Paraparaumu College charity concert at Southward Theatre. It was two hours of wonderful orchestral music, beautiful playing of the grand piano, a variety of amazing singing, dance and drama.

I was impressed with the incredible young talent in all of the arts sectors and each one was performed to a very high standard. The afternoon’s programme was sheer entertainment. The concert couldn’t help but raise one’s spirits in our current and challenging times. Paraparaumu College can stand proud of their achievements under the expertise of its director of music Merrick Stein and his valuable assistant Dr Adele Cherrill. The confidence of all the arts students and their ability to perform to a full theatre is heartening to see.

A belated thank you

I had the misfortune to have my scooter and myself knocked over on the footpath outside a petrol station in Kā piti Rd, Paraparamu, on Friday September 9.

Within seconds a crowd of people arrived to help me and check on my condition. My main concern was to have my scooter set upright and to get back on it. Somebody put my shoe back on my right foot and I was ready to continue my journey. I was asked where I was going and my response was Sevenoaks Village which seemed to indicate my brain was still okay. The reason I am writing is that on reflection I did not thank everybody who helped me — I do now. Your concern and attention to my welfare is much appreciated and I thank you all very much.

The object of this young 90-year-old was to visit my good lady (for 27 years) in care at Sevenoaks and with rain likely I was not paying due attention to the petrol station exit and probably the driver was watching the gap in the traffic flow, so accidents happen. It is nice to acknowledge that in this day and age the public is so ready to help people at such times. Thank you..
