Panto with a different twist to the tale of Robin Hood
Two community theatres team up
When Lauren Ford-Jones and friends Sue Mortimer, Bruce Canregsunell and Nick Edwards wrote an original twist on the tale of Robin Hood this year they never expected it to be on stage twice.
Ford-Jones suggested Coasters Musical Theatre and Mana Little Theatre team up for the first time, and with strong support from both community theatres, they are ready to bring Robin Hood, the panto, to life in both Plimmerton and Paraparaumu
“Robin Hood is for everyone,” writer and director Ford-Jones said.
“We are really excited to be able to bring a whole month of pantomime fun to the local community.
“We’ve really pushed the boat out with this one. They may be little theatres but this is a big show.
“It’s fast paced, exciting and completely stupidly funny. The cast are brilliant and incredibly talented.
“Our musical director Mary Flemmer and fight choreographer Simon Manns have made Robin Hood sound fantastic and the fights look thrilling and real, with our small and dedicated costume and set teams putting in the hard yards to make it look stunning.”
Robin Hood tells the story of the evil Sheriff who is stealing everyone’s
money, forcing them to live in the forest. Blinded by his hatred of Robin Hood, freshly returned from Aussie, and Robin’s ‘‘merry men’’, and by his desperate unrequited love of Maid Marian, the Sheriff doesn’t see the oddities about his own guards or
notice the real hero among them all until it’s too late. The show has lots of 80s hits sung by the cast, and some important lessons about gender assumptions, consent, and trusting your instincts.
Robin Hood opens at Mana Little
Theatre on Thursday November 17 and the pantomime madness hits the Coasters Musical Theatre stage on December 1.
