OUR STORY CONTINUES...

- David Blair

A reason that people move into retirement villages is for the peace of mind they can have knowing they are unlikely to have property hassles. Kapiti Retirement Trust ensures that when people move into a villa or apartment in Sevenoaks-Midlands Gardens Retirement Village the unit is refurbished to a level that the new occupants won’t need to spend major money on it while they are a resident.

The Trust has a great Refurbishment Team led by Steve. This team will remove old flooring, wallpaper, bathrooms and kitchens and then start the process of recreating a modern living environment.

As we have a large waiting list of people wanting to move into the village, we can sign up new residents as work commences. This ensures that new residents can make wallpaper, flooring and curtain choices. Additionally, they can have a say in the final kitchen design, and if they wish to upgrade, for example, the appliances or benchtop. The result is a unit that new residents can be proud to live in knowing that it reflects their choices.

While the refurbishment team are responsible for most of the decoration and carpentry work, they are ably assisted by a great team of contractors. These include our plumbers (Fox Contracting), our electricians (Stones Electrical), kitchen providers and installers (Kitchen Creators), our flooring contractors (Kapiti Flooring Xtra) and our window covering experts (Curtain and Blind Services). As our contractors have worked with us for many years, they provide great service and know the standards that we work to.

Work on units prior to being occupied by new residents doesn’t only happen on the inside. Our Grounds Team is led by Kevin and he liaises with new residents to determine how they wish to use the outside areas and therefore what modifications or upgrades are needed to meet their needs. This can include extending patio areas, new trellising, and gardens adjusted to residents needs with new planting according to their preferences.

Everyone works together to ensure all the interior and exterior work is completed in an efficient manner to a high quality and with everything completed in time for the new residents to move in.

The benefit for residents does not finish when they move into their new unit. If anything is not quite as expected or goes wrong, the refurbishment and grounds teams are quick to rectify any problems. Additionally, any subsequent maintenance issues are quickly attended to by Steve’s Maintenance Team. Kevin’s grounds team continue to maintain the grounds (lawns and trust gardens) around the units to ensure residents will always be surrounded by a pleasant outlook.

These processes ensure that residents moving into Sevenoaks – Midlands Gardens Retirement Village have a home that reflects their choices and they can live with peace of mind knowing any issues will be attended to for them in the future.
