Finalists for Electra award named

Business winners to be announced at an event on October 19

-

This year’s Electra Business & Innovation Award Subcategory and Special Awards finalists have been announced. The awards aim to celebrate innovation, sustainability and best business practices across all industries and sectors in Horowhenua and Kā piti.

A judging panelist said they look for businesses that can demonstrate they are ahead of the curve and meeting the rapidly changing world with fresh ideas and solution-focused attitudes.

The Subcategory Awards are an opt-in section that allows entrants to be judged against an array of businesses from multiple industries, depending on how long in operation or how big the business is.

The Special Awards are designed to celebrate outstanding work in the innovation and sustainability spaces.

The finalists for the New/Emerging Award, which is for businesses with less than three years in operation, are Beauty & the Beach, Caci Levin and Nation Beauty.

The finalists for the Small Business Award, which is a business with between 0 and 11 fulltime employees, are Dress My Nest, Kā piti Neuro Therapy, The Hair Studio Kāpiti and Zebunisso Alimova/ Mike Pero Mortgages.

The finalists for the Innovation Award are art by Riwa, Kāpiti Neuro Therapy, Mills Albert Ltd and Relish Cafe and Catering.

The finalists for the Sustainability Award are Dark Horse Coffee, Duncan’s Brewing Co and Mills Albert Ltd.

The awards are being held on Thursday, October 19, at Southwards Car Museum.

Kāpiti band Play On Words, led by vocalist Jess Deacon, will be playing a back catalogue of tunes that Deacon said “you haven’t heard since you were dancing on the table at Aunty Sal’s wedding”.

Deacon will be joined by Jodie Gummer to welcome people to the event, and later in the evening by Cam Steel, Ramon Oza and Andy Russell.

Kāpiti College barbershop quartet, Let’s Jet, will also perform.

Formed last year, the quarter recently landed first place at the Young Singers In Harmony National Convention.

Since then, they have taken off, being coached by a variety of barbershop practitioners across the Wellington region, including Emma Salzano and Bridget O’Shanassy, and performing at retirement villages, regional events and other gigs.

The highly sought-after quartet, now comprising Elodie Craig, James Stent, Jesse Pollard-Simmis and Phoenix Colombick after refreshing their members this year, have continued to produce high-quality barbershop performances of an impressive calibre for their age and experience.

Join this year’s sponsors, finalists and who’s who of the business community to applaud and celebrate the successes of the business communities.
