Kapiti News

What matters most?

We want to work with you so we can build a community that supports social, economic, cultural, and environmental wellbeing while ensuring that future generations can also enjoy the opportunities and lifestyle that makes Kāpiti such a great place to live.

-

We’re committed to providing more opportunities for you to have a say on Council priorities and decisions. This means you’ll have a chance to tell us what you think about a range of things, from playground upgrades to strategic planning. There’s a lot of ways for you to get involved.

Vision Kāpiti

The Vision Kāpiti kōrero is continuing this year and we’re keen to hear about what’s important to you and understand your aspirations for the future of our district. We’re having these conversations at local and district levels.

Local visions

At the local level, our community boards are working with you to shape a vision that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of the people who live in that area. This process will reflect the unique characteristics of each community and inform Council planning and investment decisions.

Districtwide vision

We’re also having districtwide conversations, where we invite you to share your ideas on broader topics so we can tackle the challenges we face and to make Kāpiti an even better place to be.

We’re opening new topics this month and want to hear how you think we should approach energy, land use, and food. We’re also asking for your thoughts on Kāpiti Coast’s economic development to inform our direction of travel document.

While Vision Kāpiti sets our sights on where we want to see ourselves in the future, we’re also making plans for the next few years through a range of planning strategies and documents. These give us more specific guidance on how we achieve our future aspirations, and what actions we need to take in order to achieve them.

Long-term Plan consultation

Every three years, all councils revisit their plans and budgets. Our Long-term Plan (LTP) sets our direction, priorities, and activities, and outlines our financial and infrastructure strategies and budget for the next 10 years.

To develop the LTP, we need to talk about some key decisions we need to make. We’ll be consulting in March and April to ask you about some specific issues.

Get involved

We’re setting up engagement hubs so you can come and chat with us in person. From time to time we have stands at local events, so do come and say hi if you see us out and about.

We have a dedicated web page for community engagement where you can join the conversations online anytime: haveyoursay.kapiticoast.govt.nz.

Our Council meetings are open to the public and are also livestreamed. Details are listed on our website at kapiticoast.govt.nz/your-council.
