Discount booklet proving popular
The Kāpiti Coast Grey Power Discount Booklet is attracting new members because of the addition of an information guide in its latest edition. Local president Roger Booth said, “Kāpiti is already the Grey Power association with the greatest number of members in the North Island, and only Blenheim and Nelson are ahead of us in the country.”
“The new section in the book is swelling the numbers because it is such a helpful block of up-to-date information.
“We always have a host of visitors to our office, both members and nonmembers, seeking information on a wide range of matters that currently concern them, often unexpectedly.
“Age Concern, Citizen’s Advice, and others including the police have similar enquirers.
“The information guide in the 2024 version of our book doesn’t provide all the answers.
“It would have to be a many-paged book to do that.
“But it gives details of where to go for help.
“The ‘unexpected’ aspect is the major driver.
“The information has always been out there somewhere, but it only becomes relevant to each individual because of changed circumstances.
“Where, then, does one go locally for help?”
One of the reasons why the Kāpiti membership was healthy, Booth said, is that the district has a high proportion of older citizens.
“Of the population of close to 54,000 in 2018, the median age was 47.9
“Grey Power membership is available from age 50.”
Booth said, “The local Discount Booklet was already a bonus.”
“The book entitles members to discounts at 41 local businesses.
“As an example, a member wanting drainage, gas or plumbing services has a choice from five businesses, resulting [in] 5 to 10 per cent discounts for services.
“That may be savings in the hundreds of dollars.
“Two funeral directors and four eating places are others with discounts, and many others.
“Now there is the addition of the information guide.
“Its eight pages have full sections on emergencies, health, finance, roading and pathways, transport, accommodation, community services, legal services, funeral services and the Office for Seniors.
“And in 12 months, our vicepresident Enrico Vinc will ensure the next edition of the booklet includes only totally up-to-date revised details.”
