Ō taki students excel at BP Business Challenge

-

Sixty of Otaki ¯ College’s year 12 and 13 students have taken part in a BP Business Challenge.

They worked in teams over three days and came up with some sustainable business ideas which they researched and then presented to a series of local business owner judges on the final day.

“It was great to see the students step up,” one judge said.

“The top teams stood out for me as they were confident, worked well as a team, had great ideas that they believed in, knew what they were talking about, and had thought out most aspects of their business.”

The small business idea that placed first was Eco Armour, focusing on strong cases and sustainable choices. The group was made up of Maddie Simpson, JT Byrne, Jaybe Ackerman, Harriet Georgetti, Savannah Lynn and Devon Huisman.

In second place was Fits, which is a second-hand clothing app. That group was made up of Keita Broughton-Alp, Rosie Thomsen, Louis Bevan, Ethan Kyle and Freddy Sayer.

In third place was Up Bag, which focused on recycled bags. The group was made up of Logan Boyer, Kita Kanavatoa, Ihnia Graham, Maraea Barriball and Keiyan Nootai.

The individual award for the student who stood out and stepped up the most during the three days was awarded to Logan Hughes.

“A big thanks to the BP Challenge presenters Paul, Lambrini and Talister, and also to our judges, Rangi Esson, Simon Black, Janice Brown, Pera Barrett, Marion Lumley and Travis Robertson,” said the college’s careers advisor Steph Putt.

“Congratulations also to all the students who participated. You did an awesome job.”
