Aging and how to maintain a youthful appearance

- Writes Kem Ormond

t all starts with your skin. Not just your face, but how your hands and neck age are a sure tale sign of how old you are.

IAging is inevitable, you just must grin and bear it and deal with it the best you can!

You need to stay out of the sun and if you must be in It, make sure you wear a hat and put on sunscreen.

Another key to keep looking younger is making sure you keep well hydrated, so drink plenty of water. You will be amazed at how much water your skin can absorb and how much more radiant you will look.

Reduce your late nights and get plenty of sleep. This is when your body releases hormones that promote cell turnover and renewal. Make sure you moisturise from top to toe.

Maintain a healthy diet, this is so important as you age. Aim to eat a healthy diet consisting of mostly fruits and vegetables, supplemented with whole grains and healthy, lean proteins.

They say use it or lose it and how true that is. I always remember being told by a personal trainer to park my car in the furthest part of the carpark at the supermarket. That the extra distance I must walk will make all the difference.

Make sure your beauty cleansing and moisturising regime is well established and keep up with it. it is far easier to maintain than let it run amok and have to start from scratch.

Alcohol, smoking, and coffee are not a good combination when it comes to keeping your skin looking youthful. Too much and then your skin will not appreciate it and it will show you by dehydrating your body and robbing it of key nutrients.

Always make sure that you clean your face before bed and remove your makeup. It will not just be makeup either, it will be sunscreen, bacteria, dead skin cells, dirt, and oil build up on your face during the day.

They can work their way into your pores, causing inflammation. Wash gently without scrubbing to avoid irritating your skin. There is no need to wash again in the morning. Just rinse your face with water when you wake up.

And remember, do not wear too much powder as you age, keep your hair in a sharp style and have it trimmed regularly, treat yourself to a monthly pedicure, eat plenty of oily fish and try not to worry too much about aging... you know, it brings on wrinkles!
