NZ Barok’s performing Wellington show

- LUCY SWINNEN

NZ Barok will make their debut performance in Wellington next month, accompanying cellist Daniel Yeadon in a rendition of Haydn, Mozart and Bach.

The only baroque orchestra in New Zealand, the group specialises in performing music from about 1600 to 1750 and using instruments and techniques from the time.

‘‘It has been in our heritage and blood for a very long time’’, violinist Bronwen Pugh, one of the two Wellington members of the group, said.

Pugh goes back a long way with fellow performer and cellist Emma Goodbehere.

‘‘In fact when I first came back from studying overseas I played with your mum,’’ Pugh tells Goodbehere.

‘‘And I think mum was pregnant with me and my sister,’’ Goodbehere said.

Goodbehere’s mum played baroque music and passed on the tradition to her daughters.

Pugh and Goodbehere describe NZ Barok as a tight-knit family.

They have been with the group since its inception 10 years ago.
