Bridge cost

Re: Mark Arlidge’s letter in last week’s Advertiser entitled ‘A Bridge Too Far’.

It is reassuring to see that there are others who are prepared to question the cost of the proposed cycle way bridge across the Wairoa River.

I expressed my concerns about the grandiose design and extremely extravagant cost of this bridge in a letter to the Weekend Sun which was published in late 2016.

At that time the proposed bridge was going to cost an estimated $6.5 million!

The proposed cycleway bridge across the Wairoa River appears to be the brainchild of, and is being driven by, senior Western Bay Council staff and nothing is going to stop them from having this bridge built . . . regardless of the cost. KEVINGODDARD Omokoroa
